With a $20 or $40 price difference between the versions, you definitely need to explore what you get for your money.

Which FIFA 19 edition should you buy?
The FIFA 19 release date is September 28th. If you buy the Champions or Ultimate Editions you get three days of early access to FIFA 19, so you can start playing on September 25th. On Xbox or PC, you can play early with EA Access or Origin Access, which allows you to play the full game early. Normally this is five days early.
FIFA 19 is available at Best Buy, GameStop and other retailers. You can also buy it digitally through Origin, Xbox and the PlayStation Store.
The FIFA 19 standard edition is available on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and the Nintendo Switch. This is the basic version of the game with a few pre-order bonuses. If you pre-order you get;

This is $59.99 and the cheapest version that will get you into the game. If you are a casual player who doesn’t play FIFA Ultimate Team, this is the edition you should buy.
The FIFA 19 Champions edition is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. This game includes bonus items and allows you to play early on September 25th. This version includes;

If you live inside the FIFA Ultimate Team mode, this is the version you need to buy. You’ll get a load of players throughout the first 20 weeks of the game and save money buying packs, if you are willing to wait. If you want packs up front, you may want to skip this version and buy packs all at once.
The two lower cost FIFA 19 editions are on both digital and disk, while the FIFA 19 Ultimate edition is only available digitally. If you buy through Origin Access, you will get a digital game.
Prices are the same for disk and digital versions, but typically you can find bigger deals on the physical versions at Best Buy or Amazon. If you think you may want to let someone borrow the game or if you want to sell it after a short period, you may want to buy on disk.
If you buy digitally you don’t have to switch disks when you play and you get to pre-load the game. With EA Access or Origin Access you basically get to pre-load even if you buy on disk.
Gamers on the Switch should consider a digital version so they have one less cartridge to carry around.

I don't think this is fair. I invested in a midfield that can pass, play possession, and prefer to carry a match for 60%+ of the ball by passing it around the guy who is trying to abuse the easiest mechanic in the game.
I don;t think it should be a pejorative.
Same here. I try to pass as a way to keep the ball and to bypass the press. It's pretty nervy when you wanna pass it around looking for spaces and you have like 4 players on the swarm to the ball carrier, I had Ronaldinho and Ozil being a better presser than Kante. I try to pass it around before I lob pass it to my winger due to the space left behind, but it aint easy because now I have to deal with the defense lol.
No point in possession if you’re not winning the game in FIFA. Not saying you don’t win games, but I come up against a lot of people who pointlessly play for possession but still either quit when they go 1-0 down or continue playing for possession poorly with no flow to their play and still lose.
THIS. So many people I play against attempt to keep possession and have less than 4 shots a game against me. I usually play a mostly possession-based game but against these people it genuinely baffles me why they do it when at 0-0. You can see when they go a goal or two down they completely run out of options.
Yup. It's like people forget that passing is helpful when you're trying to make the defense react and thus give space to push up the field.
And whats the easiest skill in the game?
You guessed it. Its passing.
The easiest skill in the game is running high pressure and long balls. When team press is on, passing and possession are very much not the easiest thing to do in the game.
I guess we have to agree to disagree.
Passing hasnt had any difficulty attached to it since the release of FIFA 17. That skill gap has been gone ever since. Defending is another one that is moving in exactly the same direction. No one playing this game needs to know how to defend anymore - because the best way to defend in this game, is to not do it at all and let the game do it for you!
When team press is on, passing and possession are very much not the easiest thing to do in the game.
I beg to differ. Passing has no skill gap attached to it. Its much harder to press an opponent than pass around one, because the game works AGAINST the press and FOR the passer, with so many different mechanics.
But it is true. How both methods work is somewhat depending on each players TACTICAL choices.
And that, as far as I'm concerned, breaks the game even further, and makes it LESS of a point to play - because if someone can change the course of a game, not because he's good at it or anything like that, but because he chose defensive, counter attacking strategies - or a strategy that somehow "counters" the opponents strategy with the help of RNG and assistance - then that is when this game goes straight into the bin.
Its got very little to do with actual footballing skills anymore. Less and less every year.

Is it unfair for tactics to play a role in the outcome of a game? If you come at me with high pressure and narrow tactics, and I run possession and width, why should I not have an advantage if my players have the skills to excel in keeping the ball away form you?

It is a video game, actual football skills (outside of understanding tactics) should play into it very little. That said, the biggest attribute for a pressing team set up should be stamina and aggression, as opposed to the technical skills needed to run possession.
It sounds like you think there should be one way to play, when this game (though with it's flaws) is the most versatile Fifa we've had in a while. Anyone who auto-defends is using a mechanic to their advantage, but after that, everything you do against me should have a way to counter it. Want to press, I'll keep possession. Want to out-possession me, ok, then I'll turn up the pressure and manually defend a little more. Want to play long balls, then I'll drop my back line deep and look for finesse shots in your half. Saying there shouldn't be counter tactics is stripping the essence of football from the game.
And lastly, yes, I'll hold possession sometimes to a fault. If you are auto-defending and pressing me on the edge of your box with Jesus and Sane with Martial sitting on the halfway line for an 80 yard throughball, then don't be shocked when I decide 75% possession and some safe, well worked shots are my preferred tactic. I like my chances a lot more playing my game and setting for 1-0 or 2-1 than trying to play pacey longball and losing. Especially when my midfield is built to hold the ball and be technical, with no one over 75 pace.

No, in essence it isnt. But the way tactics work in this game is more like rock, paper, scissors. You select a tactic, I select a tactic and either they cancel each other out or I'm given a better opportunity to win than you or vice versa, until its changed again.
These tactics have nothing to do with skill. Sure, you have to be there to apply the tactics and press the buttons, but its pretty much all assistance and RNG playing with us. Have a better tactical setup than your opponent at a point in time, and the game will probably open up for chances for you without you really having to do much.
And when I say that, I'm going to assume you know the basics of how you play the game, because you have to have that in place first of course. You have to know what buttons do what - but thats about it.

There arent any great players in this game. The way it is now, there never really will be either. Sure some people will win some competitions, but you will never see the same guy dominating, like you would in other, proper, competitive game - the game is just not made for that because of assistance and RNG. Its not made to find the best players of this game - its made to make a SHIT TON OF MONEY.
The fact that people are actually so deluded, they think this game is competitive - is actually making EA A LOT of extra money, because people will willingly spend a shit ton of money for the dream of being a competitive FIFA player, and if you ARE a competitive FIFA player - you fucking have to. LOL!

Actual footballing skills have always been applicable to FIFA in some way or another. Stuff like being a good passer, being a good dribbler, having vision, being tactically aware, reading your opponent well, be creative and unpredictable - all those things where stuff that I felt I could apply to playing FIFA. Its not ONLY about skill and execution. A lot of the battle happens in your minds.
Not anymore though. Its not based on football anymore - its based on EA's vision of football and its executed with game mechanics and RNG and assistance. Whatever skills you might have aquired over the years, will all be made pointless in the end, by this games RNG, assistance, and applyable tactics.
And then, if you are ever able to apply any of your real life footballing skills, it all comes crumbling down because of some absolute bullshit going the other way, that feels so forced its like a punch in the face. The only difference between the punch and playing the game, is that you usually dont know that the punch is coming - but you know the game will fuck you over, and it will. Its pretty consistent in that aspect.

Not possible anymore in this game. You cant excel at passing, because everyone gets it for free anyway and its too assisted, you cant excel at defending, because thats also given away for free to everyone, and its too assisted anyway, and you cant really excel at dribbling, because dribbling have been literally removed from the game thanks to defending assistance.
So, no - I'm not the guy that wants the game to be played in only one way. I'm the guy that wants this game to simulate football.
The only problem with that is that the developers of this game, dont care about that. What they care about is MAKING MONEY!

The issue with all you are saying there - is that anything you are talking about could previously be done by PLAYING THE GAME. No tactical options needed. You could keep possesion, you could pressure, you could play long balls, you could shoot in any way you wanted, finesse, long shots, close finishes, far corner top bins, in the box driven shots - you name it.
As far as I've been able to tell - the only way people finish now is by outside box finesse shots. And play styles these days are all about abusing whatever mechanics are the most effective, which has nothing to do with how football is ACTUALLY played or look like in real life.
And to me, that means that this game is 100% a failure.

You know, people who talk about possession just grinds my gears. In this game, keeping possession is childs play. My grandma could do it. A monkey could do it. I could do it with my monitor turned off. It is that easy.
The most annoying part about it all, is that even if I can read your passing like an open book, and be where your next pass will go, before you even know it yourself - the game will either redirect the pass outside of my interception reach, at no credit of yours, OR its going to put it between my players legs, AGAIN at no credit of yours.
Which rewards bad players for making thoughtless passes, while it punishes me for knowing exactly what my opponent is going to do next. But acting on it, while my opponent does exactly what I expect him to do - will actually punish me and leave at a disadvantageous position.
What other game actually does this? I cant think of any. Its just absolute, pure bollocks.
So all that talk about "keeping possession like a boss" is just bullshit. It takes no skill. And why should I even try to intercept your passes, when thats the most likely result? There is no point. So go ahead - keep your fucking 75% possession. I'll just be over here, snoring my ass off out of boredom. Thanks EA. Great game you've coded.
